If you're just starting to help a parent stay independent, it can feel like you're figuring everything out alone. You're not. The Tri-Valley has a solid network of senior centers, transportation programs, and meal services already in place. Most families just don't know they exist until they need them. Here's where to start.

Senior centers, city by city

Dublin Senior Center 7600 Amador Valley Blvd, Dublin, CA 94568 Open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. Phone: (925) 556-4511 Offers fitness and dance classes, walking groups, book and writing groups, computer and tech tutoring, and a monthly orientation session for anyone new to the center.

Pleasanton Senior Center Phone: (925) 931-5365 Runs exercise classes, day trips, arts and crafts, lectures, and card games, plus informational resources on housing, transportation, safety, Medicare, and legal counseling.

Livermore Senior Center (LARPD 50+ Programs) Run by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, offering a full calendar of programs and services for adults 50 and older.

Alcosta Senior and Community Center, San Ramon Serves independent adults 55 and older with activities and community programs.

If your parent hasn't set foot in one of these yet, a first visit is a low-pressure way to build social connection, which matters as much for wellbeing as any physical support does.

Getting around: Wheels and Dial-A-Ride

The Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) runs the Wheels bus system across Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, and the surrounding Tri-Valley, along with Dial-A-Ride paratransit service for seniors and residents with disabilities who can't use the regular fixed-route buses. A Tri-Valley Accessible Advisory Committee advises LAVTA specifically on accessibility for older and disabled riders, and a supplemental paratransit partnership with SilverRide expanded accessible transportation options starting in late 2025. If driving has become a source of stress or risk, this is worth looking into before a bigger incident forces the conversation.

Meals on Wheels of the Tri-Valley

Meals on Wheels of Alameda County delivers hot, nutritious meals five days a week to homebound seniors across Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, and Sunol, with a friendly wellness check at every delivery. Meals are available to adults 60 and older who are homebound and unable to prepare food for themselves. A $5 per-meal contribution is welcomed but never required, and no senior is turned away for inability to pay. You can reach the Tri-Valley program directly at 1-800-286-6640 for eligibility and referral information.

PACE Tri-Valley

For seniors who qualify, PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) offers a comprehensive model that combines medical care, therapy, meals, transportation, and social activities in one coordinated program, aimed at helping older adults stay in their own homes rather than move to a facility. It's worth asking about if your parent has more complex medical or care needs.

When these resources aren't quite enough

Senior centers, transportation, and meal programs cover a lot of ground, but they're not built to notice the day-to-day changes in how your parent is really doing, or to give your family a consistent point person when something feels off. That gap is exactly what TrueSeva is being built to fill. We're currently completing our California homecare license and preparing to serve families across Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, and San Ramon.
